Water Testing Results
The Town has received results of drinking water quality samples that were taken on June 17, 2026
Testing results indicated that the Town’s water supply system contains Manganese that slightly exceeds the Canadian Drinking Water Standards.
A level of 0.12 milligrams per liter (mg/L) is considered a high level of Manganese in potable water by Health Canada.
Sample results of the Town’s water indicated there was 0.121mg/L of Manganese at the source (Reservoir), slightly above the Guideline.
The Town is arranging for another sample from both the source Dam and from the Tap.
Although humans need to consume small amounts of manganese to be healthy, too much manganese in drinking water can lead to some adverse health effects, especially in infants and individuals with liver disease.
According to the manganese levels detected in the Town’s water supply system, Health Officials recommend that infants (less than 1 year old) and individuals with liver disease use an alternate water source for consumption and mixing formula.
In consultation with Health Canada, children over the age of one, adults and elderly residents should not have concerns with consumption.
This guideline of 0.12.mg/L is targeted to protect infants, who are the most vulnerable.
Boiling water will not remove manganese from water.
